Education works better when more students can access help.
SIMU is built by Simuverse Limited, an AI company in Kampala. We are building a tutor grounded in the Ugandan curriculum, designed to help students learn, practise, and revise with answers they can trace back to their learning materials.
Where this started
The problem is bigger than access to technology.
Ugandan secondary classrooms can have large numbers of students learning with limited opportunities for individual feedback. At the same time, the Competency-Based Curriculum expects students to apply what they learn, not simply remember it. That requires practice, explanation, and feedback — things that are difficult for one teacher to provide individually at scale.
Private tutoring can give some students access to additional explanation and practice, but it is not an option for every family. SIMU is designed to make that kind of support more accessible — giving students a way to ask questions, practise, and revise without paying for each interaction.

A confident wrong answer is worse than admitting uncertainty. When SIMU cannot find sufficient support in its approved learning materials, it should say so rather than invent an answer.
Built for the Ugandan curriculum
We build around the Ugandan curriculum and the way students are assessed, using approved curriculum and learning materials as the foundation for the experience.
Meet students on the phone they have
We are designing for the devices and connectivity students actually have. That means WhatsApp access, low-data interactions, and an experience that can work even where a student does not have a personal smartphone
Keep teachers in the loop
SIMU is designed to give teachers useful visibility into how students are learning, including the topics where students may need additional support.

Won funding at the Makerere AI Innovation Academy Demo Day.

Classroom use-case validation
Tested SIMU against real research questions assigned to secondary students by teachers and gathered positive feedback on its usefulness for student learning and access to resources.
